Ukrainian cinema carries many stories. This autumn, Ukrainian Film Festival in Sweden brings together five films from different periods and genres, offering perspectives on Ukraine through history, culture, memory, freedom and contemporary life.
The programme takes us from the Carpathians of the eighteenth century through the upheavals of the twentieth century and into Ukraine today. Historical epic meets poetic cinema and documentary; individual lives intersect with larger historical and social transformations.
Together, the films reveal a cinema shaped by questions of freedom and identity, but also by imagination, artistic expression and the ways in which culture carries memory between generations.
The festival takes place in Stockholm, Malmö and Göteborg in October and November 2026, with selected screenings accompanied by conversations and Q&As.
