Artist talk: Duda Paiva

Meet the artist Duda Paiva from the Netherlands. Director and actor Py Huss Wallin meets the creator and puppeteer of the performance "Bruce Marie" in a conversation about the challenges and possibilities of the art of puppetry. The artist talk is part of Marionetteatern's international festival Pop Up Puppets at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm on August 22-25, 2024.

Duda Paiva is the Artistic Director of the Duda Paiva Company. After training as an actor and ballet dancer in Brazil, as well as a butoh dancer in Japan, he moved to the Netherlands in 1996, where he worked as a professional contemporary dancer and choreographer. Curious and skilled in exploring multidisciplinary art forms, Paiva challenges the boundaries of visual theatre, creating an exciting and unique language that brings foam rubber sculptures to life.

Py Huss Wallin, the newly appointed Artistic Director at Örebro Teater, is a director and actor with a genuine interest in puppetry. Masks, costumes, and objects often play a central role in Py's work.

The artist talk will be held in English.
