Bruce Marie

What if you were allowed to design a completely new body for yourself? Would it still be human? Bruce, an elderly drag queen with a body that has given up, explores the possibilities of eternal life in a lab. The puppet show "Bruce Marie" is created by Duda Paiva from the Netherlands.

The performance is part of the Pop Up Puppets International Festival hosted by Marionetteatern, at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm August 22-25, 2024. See full program here.

In front of the laboratory the mass is crowding to belong to the lucky few that is first in line. Inside the building is Bruce, a split personality, a drag queen of age, a man with a body that doesn’t want anymore, but somewhat closer to the chip than the rest. In the lab there is also Muffin, a monkey that has been extensively experimented on and that already has a chip. She is in pain but the scientists have ensured her that eventually she will be able to sing in a band. And there is Dioginis, a cynical dog that only seems to be able to live in a digital 3D-world. The laboratory is in a delicate balance that Bruce irrevocably disrupts with his presence.

Bruce Marie is inspired by an unstoppable reality. A performance about vulnerability and the struggle to survive in uncertain times. The puppet maker Duda Paiva uses foam sculptures, sharp dialogues and daring choreographies between performer and puppets to build elusive and magical worlds. His multidisciplinary puppetry is virtuoso, humorous and critical.

Adults from 15 years.
