Simplicissimus

A satirical music-puppet performance about the German satirical magazine that was an important critic of Hitler and the Nazi regime until 1933. Forty puppets and five puppeteers circulate around an editorial desk where the carbaret take form.

Simplicissimus is part of the Pop up Puppets international festival at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, August 18-21 2022.

The editorial desk at Simplicissimus is the framework for the story. What led up to the choice the magazine made in the spring of 1933, when the editorial board changed sides and several of the contributors had to flee from Germany. The dramatic tension revolves around some of the problems of the satire genre; how far can you go before you cross the line? At the Simplicissimus editorial desk (1896-1944) 48 years of German history and two world wars was played out. Humor and danger co-exist as well as songs with lyrics by poets that wrote for the magazine.

Adults, from 15 years.
