Each month the audience can get to know a new director, who we present by means of a film screening and a pre-recorded and exclusive interview with the respective director. The films are selected by the programme series’ host Johannes Mayer from Kulturbiblioteket’s film club in collaboration with European cultural institutes and embassies.
A director’s first film is always something special. It’s a gigantic and complex project that exists thanks to the contribution of many different collaborators. Often, it has taken many years to prepare and work on the film - years of searching for, amongst others, a good script, the right actors and financing.
The debut film puts a new director on the map - their narrating style and topics - and means a new chapter for the director, who previously mostly has experimented with expression and style by means of short films.
New European Film 2022 is a production of Kulturbiblioteket’s film club and Klarabiografen, in cooperation with the Polish institute, the Finnish institute, the Goethe institute Stockholm, the Romanian cultural institute and Instituto Cervantes.
