The Free Photographers’ department: FAQ

Kulturhuset Stadsteatern is a place for all forms of art that is open to everyone. We now invite you to display your own photographs in The Free Photographers’ Department! The exhibition opens November 25 in Gallery 5.

WHO MAY PARTICIPATE?

The rules for participation are simple: it is on a first come, first served basis, you must be at least 18 years old and the photographs must be able to fit within a specified space. The Free Photographers’ Department will have room for 210 exhibitors.

HOW DO I APPLY? 

•    You apply by emailing the photographs you want to exhibit in a PDF document with your name as the title of the document to fff@stadsteatern.stockholm.se no later than 12.00 p.m. on October 28.

•    The PDF may not exceed 2 pages. In addition to (low-resolution) images, it also needs to contain contact information: name, mailing address, email address and phone number. The contact information needs to be at the top of the PDF.

•    You will then receive confirmation that we have received your application. This confirmation includes information on how to pay your registration fee. Please note that you are not registered as a participant until you have paid the registration fee. The photographs will not be returned to the sender.

WHEN IS THE LAST APPLICATION DATE?

The application needs to be submitted no later than 12.00 p.m. on Friday October 28.

WHAT DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE?

Every exhibitor in The Free Photographers’ Department pays an administrative fee of 250 SEK. You will receive payment instructions through a personal confirmation email.

HOW AND WHEN WILL I KNOW WHETHER OR NOT I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED?

Kulturhuset Stadsteatern will get back to you no later than November 4 to let you know whether or not you will participate in the exhibition The Free Photographers’ Department.  

PRODUCTION OF PHOTOGRAPHS

As an accepted participant in The Free Photographers’ Department, you are responsible for the production of the photographs you wish to exhibit. This means that you print, mount and/or frame your photographs ahead of the installation of the exhibition.

PUTTING UP AND TAKING DOWN

•    Each exhibitor is given a wall space on an OSB board with the following dimensions: width 100 cm, height 180 cm.

•    You yourself put up your photographs on a space assigned by Kulturhuset Stadsteatern on a specified day and time during the time period of November 21–23.
 
•    You yourself decide whether your photographs are to be framed or perhaps just be put up directly on the wall using tacks, tape or a staple gun.

•    We provide the tools needed for you to be able to put up the photographs, such as spirit level, nails, tacks, staple gun, tape.

•    Kulturhuset Stadsteatern is responsible for making sure that your name is presented in relation to your photographs.

•    All material is taken down after the end of the exhibition. If you want to keep your photographs, then you need to come in and take them down. No photographs are returned to participating photographers.

•    Any costs related to the travel to and from Kulturhuset Stadsteatern or accommodation in connection with putting up, taking down and/or the opening of the exhibition are paid by the participant him- or herself.

COPYRIGHT

Through your application to The Free Photographers’ Department, you agree that Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, without compensation, is free to use accepted photographs as press images in the marketing of the exhibition and on all platforms; for example by means of publication on the Kulturhuset Stadsteatern website, Instagram page and Facebook page, in printed material, in programs and in advertising and marketing material in relation to the exhibition, as well as through free distribution to the press and the media. In the event of publication, the photographer’s name is to be clearly indicated. Following the end of the exhibition, Kulturhuset Stadsteatern may decide to use the press images in future marketing in relation to The Free Photographers’ Department.

If you don't want your pics to appear in any form other than the exhibition state that in your application.

As a photographer, you always own the copyright to your own photographs. Through your application to The Free Photographers’ Department, you certify that your submissions are your own and that you are subsequently responsible for all of your submitted entries in terms of copyright. This also means that you as the photographer is responsible for ensuring that people who may be portrayed in your work have given their permission that the work is exhibited at The Free Photographers’ Department, is used in the marketing of The Free Photographers’ Department and Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in general, on all platforms and in printed and digital formats, prior to the opening of The Free Photographers’ Department and in further marketing of the exhibition.
